Wyoming

Wyoming has been one of my favorite states since my first time here in 2011. We spent a week here in the Wind River Range last year. I love the expansive landscapes and the mix of desert and mountains.

We stopped at Devil’s tower first, which rises dramatically above the landscape at 1,267 ft above the river. We hiked the Red Beds trail around the tower before heading toward the Bighorn Mountains.

The Bighorns are still quite snowy this time of year. We decided to get through them and camp at a lower elevation. Not every campsite is the best, but this one was free and served the purpose.

We did a quick hike near our campsite and then wandered into a fish hatchery which is run by the forest service and is open to the public. This hatchery provides trout for many of the rivers in Wyoming.

Early Tuesday morning we drove toward Yellowstone, and I had to stop multiple times to check out the landscape and let Jon-David know how much I want to buy land out here.

Our first hike in the area was in the Shoshone forest, just outside the park border. Less than a mile into the hike we saw our first grizzly, just off the trail. He wanted nothing to do with us and ran off up the hill but I was able to grab a quick photo.

  1. I can see why Wyoming calls to you. It is beautiful. Love the updates and pics. Please be careful, I’m glad the bear didn’t want you for dinner. ❤️
