The “sew” part

For those who don’t know, I like to sew heavier duty bags and gear to use for the outdoors and traveling. I picked up sewing as a hobby a few years ago and became a little obsessed with it. I am now the proud owner of four vintage sewing machines, two industrial and two domestic. I guess you could say I am also a sewing machine collector. Molly has graciously given me a room in our house that is primarily for sewing.

I thought that this long trip and blog would be a good way for me to shamelessly plug my sewing/ gear making passion. Who knows, maybe it will turn into something. Throughout this trip, I will be sharing some things I have made being used in the wild. If you would like to follow my sewing content in more detail. I created a new Instagram account for MYOG (make your own gear) content here: @notsewfancy.myog

Here are a few simple strap pockets I made for Molly and myself to store our phones and snacks when backpacking. This is just a start I will post more about my bigger sewing projects in the future.

Tan strap pocket
The main fabric is 500d “Cordua” Nylon. The grey fabric is “Venom” stretch mesh. A “slik clip” allows the pocket to be easily moved to another pack.
Pocket open
The pocket is closed with Velcro. It is a very simple construction, two pieces of fabric, Velcro, webbing for the clip and the Nylon binding.
